30 Czech municipalities motivate their communities to get moving again with the European MileMore than 30 municipalities in the Czech Republic created a total of 36 events, including the flagship events for 5 June 2021, to celebrate the European Mile together with the rest of the Europe. The Czech celebration of the European Mile was a part of this year’s MOVE Week. The events moved more than 2400 people in the Czech Republic with the help of 282 MOVE Agents and 50 volunteers who helped make everything possible.

All of the events were organised for the first week of June (31 May-5 June 2021). There was something for everybody who wanted to participate, including a number of outdoor trails, running circuits for children and adults, plus hiking and cycling trips and walks for adults and seniors.

For children and youth, there were competitions on marked routes in different athletic disciplines. The organisers also considered families by preparing circuits and trails in nature that included sport-related tasks for children. Events were also celebrated to coincide with Children’s Day on 1 June.

“The European Mile events were perceived as a restart of physical activities and a return to ‘normal’ life in the Czech Republic.” - Anna Šebková

The aim of the Czech European Mile campaign was to motivate people to move again, and the organisers tried to involve inactive members of the general public in the European Mile events by making the activities very simple (running, walking, cycling), emphasising that the distance is achievable for almost everybody (1.6 km).

The Czech NowWeMOVE National Coordinators want to say a big thank you and congratulations to the municipalities involved: Radnice, Čelákovice, Černošice, Dalešice, Křelov, Lomnice nad Popelkou, Libouchec, Louny, Knínice, Riverside of Chrudimka, Pardubice, Pilsen, Prague - Vršovice, Štáblovice, Žalkovice, Valašské Meziříčí, Prague - Podolí, Spořilov and Vyšehrad, area of Sokol Blovice, České Meziříčí, Dřevohostice, Dubicko, Chocerady, Jedovnice, Karlovy Vary, Kuřim, Děčín, Vyškov, Milevsko, Milostín, Pečky, area of Sokol Řeporyje, Říčany, Uherský Brod, surroundings of municipality Doloplazy.
