Often it is easier to motivate yourself to work out if you are not alone. It is much more fun to do physical activity with a friend and four-legged friends are no exception. Moldova joined the European Mile initiative by organising a race for amateur runners and their dogs. DOGS’ MILE took place in Valea Morilor park in Chisinau on 6 June 2021.

Although the number of participants was limited to 50, this was not the case for pets, and some runners participated with two or even three dogs. Thus, 50 people and 57 dogs met at the starting line. To make sure that the race was safe for accompanying animals, a professional cynologist gave his instructions before the start.

It was an exciting event, with lots of happy smiles and loud barks, united people passionate about an active lifestyle and animal lovers.

“In Moldova we don’t have that many organised activities where people can participate together with their pets. Now because of the pandemic it is still risky to have large events. And these small gatherings with 50-60 participants and their four-legged friends have a special atmosphere and give a second wind to the active life of the city of Chisinau,” says Serghei Legheida, DOGS’ MILE organiser.

Also, during the DOGS’ MILE event a national record “Most numerous start of a race with dogs” was officially registered by the Moldovan National Records Agency.
DOGS’ MILE was organised by ECO PRO NGO, Moldovan National Records Agency with the support of the Association Sport for All Suceava, European Mile National Coordinator in Romania.
