European Mile events have already started to take place around Europe, and the first event in Romania at which the European Mile project was promoted was the National Mountain Running Championship.

On 11 April 2021, seniors and juniors ran short distances during the National Mountain Running Championship. This national event, part of the competitive calendar of the Romanian Athletics Federation, was organised by the Raraul Câmpulung Moldovenesc Sports Club, the Câmpulung Moldovenesc City Hall and the Local Council.

The event was supported by a group of volunteers from Association Sport for All (Asociaţia Judeţeană „Sportul pentru Toţi”) Suceava, which disseminated information about the European Mile project. World, Balkan and National Cross Country Championship medallist Erzilia Elena Timpau (Cosovanu) was also present as a promoter of athletic activities. The President of the Romanian Athletics Federation, Mr. Florea, and the Mayor of Câmpulung Moldovenesc, Mr. Negura, also attended this event.

It might be the first, but definitely not the only event celebrating the joy of moving again in Romania – more European Mile activities are going to take place in Romania (and all over Europe) as the year rolls on. As such, on 15 May 2021, AJSPT Suceava will promote the European Mile at the Balkan Mountain Running Championship, also in Câmpulung Moldovenesc.
