Many EM events will be arranged - events in sport districts (the western part of Sweden) between May and August. The focus is on underserved areas where less people attend in local sport clubs, and are less physically active, and have suffered greatly due to depression.
The hope is that by conducting EM-events, they will be able improve athletic clubs and elementary schools, as well as provide movement and joy after a long period of inactive behavior. The integration of the EM-events into existing activities/educational programs, will also construct new EM-events.
In May, football festivals will be hosted in a number of primary schools. Students will be allowed to participate in the European Mile as part of this football tournament. This summer, there will be a massive leadership program Pop Up Games, in which young leaders are educated to organize athletic events in underserved regions of Göteborg during the summer.v The European Mile will be included into this initiative, and 150 young leaders will register miles over the summer.
During MOVE Week, we will allow elementary schools to register mileage and enter a contest to win activity materials for their students.
Primary schools and grassroot sport clubs in Sweden will try to FIND THEIR MOVE! On 5th of June 8 sport clubs in different disadvantaged areas will be supported to organize the flagship event and make their members walk or roll the European Mile. This will take place in cities as Borås, Skövde, Gothenburg, Trollhättan, Vänersborg and Uddevalla. Almost 20 schools spread throughout the district will support their students with walking, running or rolling through the mile.
The target group's purpose is to actively encourage cooperation between Street Games (VGIF/SISU), sports-related organizations in our district, and disadvantaged-area schools in order to triumph at the European Mile Event.
Main Partners:
The EUROPEAN MILE is one of our brand new events, that we are organising, as an official European Week of Sport event. The concept of the EUROPEAN MILE is designed to build a bridge between ISCA and European Week of Sport. It will focus on using public streets for citizens’ activities and mobility, and thus celebrate both the heathy and environmentally friendly modes of transport, and the broader benefits of physical activity. In addition, EUROPEAN MILE is part of the year-round ISCA campaign NowWeMOVE, which has the vision of getting 100 million more Europeans active in sport or physical activity by 2020.
