During Move Week, from the 31st of May to the 6th of June, there will be a nationwide virtual event. Individuals will be able to take part in the European Mile at any point throughout the week. It will be open to people of all ages and abilities; registration will be done through Event Master, and one representative from each school, club, or organization will register and mention the number of participants.
On the 4th of May, registration will open. To promote the launch, there will be a soft launch on May 4th, prior to the registration opening. A local school, organization officials, and a modest media presence are expected to be present during the European Mile. Irish sporting organizations like as Sport Ireland, Athletics Ireland, and Get Ireland Walking will promote the event primarily through social media and email campaigns.
It will be a national celebration. Ireland is currently under the strictest Covid19 lockdown restrictions, with no apparent timeline for reopening. Because committing to a physical European Mile event is not possible, a virtual event will be held instead. Virtual events linked with Athletics Ireland have had a lot of success in the past.
The European Mile in Ireland will be accessible to all ages and abilities across the country. Around 10 000 participants will virtually find their mile with walking, running or rolling.
It is anticipated that a local school, organisation representatives and a small media presence will be in attendance.
The EUROPEAN MILE is one of our brand new events, that we are organising, as an official European Week of Sport event. The concept of the EUROPEAN MILE is designed to build a bridge between ISCA and European Week of Sport. It will focus on using public streets for citizens’ activities and mobility, and thus celebrate both the heathy and environmentally friendly modes of transport, and the broader benefits of physical activity. In addition, EUROPEAN MILE is part of the year-round ISCA campaign NowWeMOVE, which has the vision of getting 100 million more Europeans active in sport or physical activity by 2020.
